A User's Guide to Our Book Rating System
Like New: Very close to NEW condition. May have a small blemish (such as a bumped corner or insignificant tear) in dust jacket* and/or cover, but still appears to have never been read. Ex-library items may be listed as "like new" if they appear to have never been read, even though they have the usual library/catalog markings.
Very Good: May have been read once or twice. The binding is secure. May have very light wear or softening to the cover edges. Covers or pages may have insignificant tears and/or minimal creases. May have slight yellowing inside covers or to page edges. Overall a very nice copy.
Good/Very Good: Meets Very Good condition criteria, with possible exceptions --
1) may contain name or inscription inside the front cover,
or a name written on the page edges
2) may have noticeable yellowing to page edges or inside cover
Good:
Has definitely been read, possibly many times. The binding and all the pages will be secure but not necessarily tight. The cover and/or pages may show wear, possibly creases or mild wrinkles. May have a name or inscription inside the front cover, or a name written on the page edges. May have additional writing or notes in margins. May have obvious yellowing inside the covers and to page edges. May have repaired tears on cover or pages. Overall a sturdy, readable copy.
Fair: This book will show wear and has definitely been read several times. The cover and/or pages will have creases and wrinkles. The binding may be loose but pages will be secure. May show significant yellowing inside covers and pages. May have writing, underlining or highlighting in the book. May have unrepaired tears. Overall a reading copy only.
Poor: We may sell a copy in poor condition because it may be hard to find. This will not be a sturdy or attractive copy. Binding may be very loose and pages may be insecure. May include tears, writing, creases, etc.
*NOTE ABOUT DUST JACKETS
: If a book is listed as a Hardcover with Dust Jacket, the jacket's condition will be comparable to that of the book. However, at times we obtain books whose dust jackets do not reflect the condition of the book inside. Because some of our customers prefer a dust jacket in poor condition to no dust jacket at all, we will typically disregard the jacket and rate the BOOK ONLY, but will ship the book with its jacket.
